Here

Awake & Alive was created in part to be a support for Africans living here in the States.  Whether it’s a family fresh off the plane or someone that’s been here for several years, it is so difficult to come to a new country with new customs and people and, often, a new language and not be burdened.  We would like to ease that burden.  Whether through providing a place to stay for Africans that have just come while they take a couple of weeks to find an apartment, to connecting them to community services, to finding for them other Africans living in their community, to just being a friend when the loneliness seems unbearable, we are here to provide whatever support that may be needed.  Contact us and let’s see how you can get involved.  It takes a lot of people to make this happen, and we’d love to plug you in!

We are also passionate in our desire to be on a journey towards something bigger than ourselves.  We are passionate to lead others on a similar journey of love for our fellow humankind.  IT’S NOT ABOUT US!!!!  Therefore, we want to show people–especially Christians–that living life for others is not only possible, it is required. Without giving of ourselves, we will never live fulfilling and meaningful lives. We want people to explore what it is that makes them excited, moves them and encourage them in pursuing that for the good of humanity.  For us, our passion has led us to create an organization focused on serving Africans.  For others, it will look entirely different.  But God requires that all of us “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God” (Micah 6:8), so our pursuits should reflect that.  The Bible also teaches “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” (James 1:27) so we want to teach other believers about God’s heart for those in need and encourage people to get involved!  Contact us if you are interested in Awake & Alive coming to your church or group to share this with others.

Lastly, we are SO EXCITED to offer mission trips to Ethiopia (and elsewhere in Africa in the future?!?) to visit our school, among other places where we will have a child sponsorship program.

Our first trip is scheduled to Kechene in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia September 8-16, 2012!!

There is nothing like going overseas and experiencing firsthand the lives others lead, especially, in the case of sponsorship, when you meet someone for the first time that you have been praying for and loving from afar for so long.  It is overwhelming, eye-opening, and life-changing for most people, and we would love for everyone to experience this personally while helping and reaching out to Africans in need.
